Release of Status Paper and Four Sectoral Strategies on Resource Efficiency

Background
Resource Efficiency and Circular economy is a key element of SDG Goal 12: Ensure Responsible Consumption and Production Patterns and closely interrelated with eight other goals (2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 14 and 15) as well as fulfilling commitments under Paris Accord for reducing GHG emissions. In line with the commitment of the Government of India to SDG Vision 2030 and Paris Accord, NITI Aayog along with EU Delegation to India released a Strategy on Resource Efficiency (RE Strategy) in November 2017.
In accordance with the guidance from Interdepartmental Group of Stakeholders on Resource Efficiency under the RE Strategy, a Status Paper and Way Forward on Circular Economy & Resource Efficiency and four sectoral strategies viz. Steel, Aluminium, Construction & Demolition Waste, Secondary Materials Management in Electrical & Electronics Sector has been prepared after extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Discussion
The event for the Release of the Status Paper along with four sectoral strategies on Resource Efficiency was organised on January 22, 2019. The papers were released by Shri Ratan P. Watal, Principal Advisor, NITI Aayog, and Member Secretary, Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to Prime Minister, and Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, EU Ambassador to India along with the nodal officers of the respective ministries.
